Description
If you value serenity and tranquility, and nature feels like an extension of your soul, then this Woodland Valley chalet surrounded by thousands of acres of state land just might be your perfect happy place. On the outskirts of Phoenicia, tucked away on a private acre in the mountains is this easy-going, just-right retreat. The star of the house is a full wrap-around deck that lets you take in the full majesty of the outdoors. Or enjoy s'mores and conversation around the firepit in a forest clearing just up the hill. Large, moss-covered boulders and rock outcroppings accentuate the wooded landscape. There is an unexpected wild strawberry patch just in front of the house and there are a variety of wild honeysuckles, ferns, maples, sweet gums and other trees dotting the landscape. Seasonal streams run along both sides of the property with a charming small bridge near the decorative hand pump atop the well. Hiking trails run throughout the area and the Woodland Valley Creek can be heard in the distance. Inside, many of the 1970s period details were retained during updates. On the walk-in first floor the chalet offers 2 carpeted bedrooms, a new laundry/exercise room, full bath, utility room and entry hallway. Upstairs there is a great room with a vaulted and beamed cedar ceiling anchored by a warming, bright-red-enameled woodstove. It then opens to the dining room, both with lovely light hickory wood floors. The kitchen was recently updated with warm-gray soft-close cabinets and charcoal counters; appliances are stainless steel. A half bath and pantry/closet are off the dining room, and the loft/storage area is above the dining room and kitchen (it might make a great meditation or yoga space, or even a sleeping loft). The kitchen opens to part of the deck that makes a perfect grilling and picnic area. The great room sliders open to the largest part of the deck where one finds both year-round partial views across the valley to Pantherkill Mountain and seasonal views of surrounding Catskill peaks from the multiple seating and conversation areas. A newer whole-house automatic generator lends peace of mind. This aerie is about 5-10 minutes to Phoenicia, 20 to Woodstock, 20-30 to ski areas in Hunter and Bellayre, about 30-40 minutes to the Thruway and Kingston. Our area is filled with arts, recreational and dining experiences of all kinds, but the peace is why we live here and now you can, too.
Extras: The deck creates a carport area and there are two additional parking spaces at the top of the driveway. Part-way up the drive is a space for potentially 2 additional vehicles. Note that there is a dug well supplied by pipes carrying water from a spring
